ensemble Workshops

The ensemble workshops consist of instrumental techniques as well as ensemble instruction. All students must audition for placement in the appropriate ensemble. Prior to or immediately following each group's competition performance, all workshop participants will perform their assigned audition excerpt for a workshop instructor in a designated room. The audtion exerpts are posted below.

Violin Audition Music

Trumpet Audition Music

Armonia Audition Music

Guitarrón Audition Music

Therefore, be sure your students are given their respective instrument's excerpt in advance so that they
feel prepared for their audition. Tempo and musical markings are clearly marked for each instrument
group. Once every student is assessed, they will be placed in a workshop group for Saturday that will
work on mariachi music that is appropriate for the skill level they displayed during the auditions.

If a director or student elects not to perform the audition excerpt for our teachers, the student will
automatically be placed in a workshop group by the workshop teachers, regardless of their skill level.

Students may not change/move workshop groups after the assessments have been made.

In the workshop environment, there will be three teachers who will team teach each workshop group; a
violin teacher, a trumpet teacher, and an armonía teacher.

solo Vocal Workshops

The solo vocal workshops will be taught by Michelle Quintero and Jac Hernandez. Students will learn vocal techniqes, Mariachi reperatoire, stage presence and other performance techniques. This workshop does not require an audition but is only available to the first 30 students who register.

If at any time, a director or student has a question over the audition excerpt or process, feel free to
email us at latin.music@txstate.edu.
